Sean Mc Dermotts 1-13 Four Masters 0-10
Warwickshire SFC Group Stage – 02/07/2008

Sean Mc Dermotts 1-13 Four Masters 0-10

Sean Mc Dermotts progressed to the semi final of the Warwickshire SFC thanks to a 6 point victory over Four Masters in Coventry on a fine summers evening. Four Masters opened the more brightly of the two teams and some poor Macs play was punished as Four Masters lead by 0-5 to 0-2 at the interval. In the first half Macs wasted some good chances and kicked an amazing 9 wides in that period.

However the second half was a different story as Macs upped their game and scored an impressive 1-9 without reply. The goal coming from a fine Dave Lyons finish midway through the second half. From here on in the result was never in much doubt, although Masters did land some frees near the end to bring the score closer.

Next up for Macs is Erin go Brath in the semi final on the 27th of July. On the basis of this display Macs will have a lot of work to do before then if they are to progress to the final in September.

Macs U14 win crunch game
Macs 4 – 7 Setanta 3 – 4

Macs won this crucial league game to remain on course for a semi-final
spot. In this, their third encounter of the season, Setanta and Macs
could not be separated for long periods of the game. An outstanding point
from Joe Drake and an opportunist goal from Declan Staunton saw Macs just
keep their noses in front at the break. Again Conal Dowling and Ryan
Bennett were superb in the full back line Half-time.
Half-time Macs 2 -2 Setanta 1 – 2

Macs started the second half well and gained a 4 – 4 to 1 – 4 lead with
ten minutes left. Stanta would not give it up though and two late goals
narrowed the gap to 4pts. Macs kept their nerve, however, and added
another pair of white flags to run out winners by 6pts. A tough battle
where Macs dug in, the outstanding Connor Mooney having his best game of
the season.
Sean McDermotts 0-12 Erin Go Brath 0-10
Warwickshire SFL 08/06/2008

Sean McDermotts 0-12 Erin Go Brath 0-10

Sean Mc Dermotts returned to winning ways and top of the Warwickshire SFL with a hard fought victory over a strong EGB side.

In a match played in blisteringly hot conditions Macs opened the stronger of the two sides and were unlucky not to net in the opening minutes as the EGB goalie saved well at close range from Dave Lyons.

However Macs did not have long to wait as a lot of early pressure resulted in some close range points to move Macs into a three point lead, 0-4 to 0-1. Indeed Macs had the majority of possession in the first 20 minutes of the half but could not convert possession into scores. For the final ten minutes of the half EGB upped the tempo and some good work by them yielded some fine scores and the lead by the minimum at the break, 0-6 to 0-5.

EGB started the second half as they finished the first and added another point early on to move into a two point lead. However from here on Macs upped their game, and thanks to some good work from Joseph Dowling around midfield Macs began to exert some pressure on the EGB defence. An Eamon Hanlon free was quickly followed by points from Chris Hayden and Andrew Walsh (2) as Macs moved into a two point lead. From here on both teams traded points with Macs running out two point winners in the end.

Scorers: A Walsh 0-3, C Hayden 0-3, M Slevin, E Hanlon 0-2 each, M Hayden 0-1, John Dowling 0-1.
Sean McDermotts 0-11 John Mitchells 2-6
Warwickshire SFL 18/05/2008

Sean McDermotts 0-11 John Mitchells 2-6

Sean McDermotts lost their first competitive Warwickshire fixture in almost three years to a determined John Mitchells outfit at Parc na hEireann.

Playing with wind advantage in the first half Macs opened up a three point lead by half time 0-6 to 0-3.

However early in the second half Mitchells levelled the tie with a goal from the penalty spot. Macs responded well to this set back and opened up a two point lead with a couple of well taken points. At this point Macs were on top around the middle third but could not turn possession into scores and paid the price as Mitchells stroke for a second goal on a break away attack.

With the wind at their back Mitchells added on two more points to open up a two point lead. In the final 5 minutes Macs rallied but only could only close the gap to one point as Mitchells held out for a deserved victory.

This defeat will surely act as a wakeup call to Macs who will have to produce better performances than this if they are to go on and retain the Warwickshire SFC for a third year in a row.

Sean Mc Dermotts:

1. D Tierney, 2. M Dowling, 3. J Mc Glade, 4. T Neville, 5. G Murray, 6. M Hayden, 7. D Walsh, 8. E Hanlon, 9. O Bennett, 10. M Slevin, 11. B Walsh, 12. John Dowling, 13. P Kelly, 14. Joseph Dowling, 15. L Scanlon. Subs: I Dooley for P Kelly, D Hamilton for T Neville.

Super Macs reach semi-final

For the fourth year in succession Macs improved on their pervious best, not only qualifying for the Championship but than going on to reach the semi-final for the first time ever.

Saturday 31st May

After giving Sigersons a run for their money in the first game, the team went on to victories over Glen Rovers (Herts) and Mullinavat (Kilkenny) to qualify for the Championship:

Sigerson 2 – 11 Macs 3 – 1

Glen Rovers 0 – 1 Macs 6 – 7

Mullinavat 0 – 1 Macs 1 – 8

Sunday 1st June

Macs began a tremendous days football with a thrilling game against eventual champion Eire Og (Carlow).

The half-time score saw Macs in front 2 – 1 to 1 – 2 before the physical strength and power of the Irish side gave them a victory of 2 – 3 to 3 – 9.

Macs then beat Tara of London to set-up a showdown with Bandon, (Cork), the winner to progress through to the semis. Macs trailed 0 – 4 to 0 – 2 at the break and with a minute on the clock trailed 0 – 7 to 0 – 3. A whirlwind finish, however, saw Ryan Bennett hammer home a penalty and Aidan Gill clip a last minute point to draw the game. When the final league was produced it showed Bandon and Macs having equal scores over three games but, with Macs conceding two less points, they progressed to meet Strabane in the semi. Again Macs gave it their all but Sigersons were not to be denied.

Squad

Connor McCarthy, Nial Glenholmes, Ryan Bennett, Ryan Monteith, Kieran Joyce, Declan Staunton, Jordan Bangura, Hugh Maguire, Aidan Gill, Michael McCloskey, Daniel Rushe, Eamonn Culliney
Reserve – Liam O’Halloran

This was a great effort over two days by a young squad, Despite meeting physically superior opposition, time and time again Macs out-performed their opponents. All the squad members – led by outstanding captain Declan Staunton – deserve great praise for their passionate displays.

Thanks to all parents, helpers and friends who helped over the weekend, especially with accommodation.
U14 Lose Championship Final
St. Brendans 5 – 1 Sean McDermotts 0 – 12

A heartbreaking result saw Macs dethroned as U14 Champions by a spate of second-half goals.

The match began competitively with both sides contesting every ball with energy and passion. Macs once again, though, showed the ability to score quality points with Mooney, McEvoy and Lambeth all registering from distance. Aoife Mannion was repeating her virtuoso performance of the semi-final at corner-back – Brendans making four different switches to try and counteract her threat. It appeared that Macs were going to grind out a result as had been the case in previous game this season. The key turning point came when Mooney burst through on goal. Shooting early, when he could perhaps have closed in for the kill, Connor Quigley saved twice and Brendans then cleared the goalmouth scramble. If failing to score was a blunder then failing to win the very winnable breaking ball was a disaster, as Brendans broke away to score their first goal on the stroke of half-time. Instead of leading 1 – 6 to 0 – 1, Macs found the game in the balance at 0 – 6 to 1 – 1.

The second half began as the first – hard graft and little space. Macs yet again showed the ability to score under pressure edging into a 0 – 7 to 1 – 1 lead.
Before, however, they could begin to build, Brendans struck with two goals, both of which Macs would see as major defensive blunders. To their credit, through, they dug in again and clawed Brendans back to level scores at 0 – 10 to 3 – 1. Macs had the momentum but were again caught on the break, this time Conal Dowling, who had played a superb game, was blatantly pushed in the back. The ref waved play on and Brendans did just that, firing home a killer fourth. Macs threw all caution to the wind and although they managed one more score were again punished late on as Brendans ran out 5 – 1 to 0 – 12 winners.

This was a cruel way to lose a championship after all the good work this year but that, as they say, is football. Lessons need to be learned, with basic errors blighting periods of the game and more creative switches required on the line. Brendans deserve credit for their work rate and finishing but at least three of the goals were shockers – the two blunders and the foul that wasn’t given.

The management team of Joey Dowling and Kevin McEvoy are proud of this team and the outstanding football they’ve played this year, we look forward to the battles still to come this season.
U18 FL Macs 8-7 EGB 2-4
17/04/2008 U18 Football League

This was a much tougher game than the scoreline might indicate. Erin go Brath took the lead in the first five minutes with an opening goal which was quickly followed by a point. Macs settled down and started to play as a unit and produced some excellent football. Martin Slevin, Jack Maguire, Liam Gilbride, Ryan Corrigan, Macauley Felgate, Craig Aspinall and the two Checketts Toby and Charlie were superb for MAcs and outplayed their opponents.
Sean McDermotts 2-14 Roger Casements 1-8
Sean McDermotts 2-14 Roger Casements 1-8Warwickshire SFC 14/04/2008

Sean McDermotts 2-14 Roger Casements 1-8

Sean McDermotts opened up the defence of their Warwickshire SFC with a comfortable win over Roger Casements at Parc na hEireann. Macs opened strongly and an early Chris Hayden goal followed by two Trevor Neville points put them into an early lead. However Casements stroke back form the penalty spot to reduce the lead to two points. At the break the Macs lead remained at two points, 1-5 to 1-3.

In the second half however Macs found some more rhythm and converted more of their possession to scores, and a second Chris Hayden goal killed off the contest as Macs ran out eventual winners by 9 points.

U14 Championship Semi-Final 1/5/08
Macs 3-13 Setanta 0-2

This scoreline did not reflect how closely fought a game this was. For
the first twenty minutes Macs struggled to clear their lines, Setanta led
by 0-1 to no score and they had seven wides. Macs had to rely on a solid
full- back line and confident keeping from Conor McCarthy. Gradually,
however, the midfield of Joe Drake and Jack Vencatachellum began to win
more possession and feed the forwards. Ryan Bennett and Aaron McTernan
also started to dominate their flank. A free from John McEvoy saw Macs
pull level before a great catch and score from Jack edged Macs in front.
Aaoife Manion, probably Macs best player in the first half, was a
constant thorn in Setantas side. A superb defence splitting ball from
Alex Lambeth saw her race clear to score the crucial first goal on the
stroke of half-time. H-T Macs 1-4 Setanta 0-1.
Macs had to fight tooth and nail in the second half again but edged clear
due to their superior finishing. Points from Alex, Connor Mooney, John and
Kieran Joyce gave breathing space before Jack V and Jordan Bangura both
found the net to give the final score 3-13 to 0-2. Nial O'Reilly was
unfortunate late on with a great catch and nearly great shot on the turn.
This was a great win against a very strong challenge, well done to all the
squad.
U14 Championship Quarter-Final 24/4/08
Macs 3-11 John Mitchels 0-0

Goals from Christie McClean, Aaron McTernan and Bokang Bogatsu saw Macs
comfortably home. A relatively disjointed performance with Alex Lambeth
probably the best of the forwards. The backs again stood strong whenever
Mitchels did threaten. Will need to be much better against Setanta in the
semi.
Sean Mc Dermotts 2-14 EGB 0-4
2007 U18 Championship Semi-Final

Macs 2-14 EGB 0-4

Despite being without a number of regulars Macs managed to overcome a spirited Erin Go Bragh by 16 points at Holly Lane on Tuesday 22/04. Goals in either half half from Bernard Fanning and Ryan Ward ensured Macs qualified for the final next Tuesday 29/04 against Roager Casements at Pairc Na Heireann.

The Macs started well but were only 1 point up midway through the first half when Fanning's speculative long drive found the net. From there on Macs took total control and ran out worthy winners. Ryan Ward who was on as a second half substitute scored a fine goal early in the half.

Other big contributions came from Richard Smith at full forward and James Morgan in the half forward line. Martin Slevin and Fanning controlled the middle while Toby Checketts played well at centre back
Sean McDermotts 2-10 Four Master 0-6
Warwickshire SFL 20/04/2008 - Coventry

Sean McDermotts 2-10 Four Master 0-6

In slippery conditions an under strength Macs side put in a strong second half performance to see off a battling Four Masters side in Coventry.

Macs were forced to field with only 13 players to even up affairs with an under strength Four Masters outfit. Indeed Masters seemed to enjoy the numerical deficit as they elected to fall deep into their own half in the first half and use the advantage of the strong wind to send in long balls to the isolated full forward line. However the Macs back line held out reasonable well and a well taken Joseph Dowling goal ten minutes before half time gave Macs the vital advantage going into half time, leading 1-4 to 0-4.

In the second half Macs piled on the pressure and registered a further 1-6 and won out comfortably 2-10 to 0-6.
Sean McDermotts 1-9 Roger Casements 1-6
Warwickshire SFL 14/04/2008

Sean McDermotts 1-9 Roger Casements 1-6

Sean McDermotts opened up the defence of the Warwickshire SFL with a three point win over rival Roger Casements in slippery conditions at Parc na hEireann. The score line may somewhat flatter Roger Casements as Macs were in control throughout most of the match, with a very late penalty bringing Casements within touching distance.

Playing with the advantage of the wind in the first half Macs opened up a commanding half time lead of 1-5 to 0-0. The first half goal came rather fortuitously when a Chris Hayden point effort looped over the Casements keeper, who had earlier pulled off some fine saves to keep out some earlier Macs attacks.

In the second half Casments fought back and some early points had Macs on the back foot. But towards the middle of the half some quick fire points put Macs back in a healthy lead before the late penalty was awarded to Casements following a harsh decision against full back John Mc Glade.

These teams meet in three weeks time in the first round of the championship and both teams have some work to do before then.

Next up for Macs in the league is Four Masters next Sunday at 3.30pm in Coventry.
Setanta U14 0-3 Macs U14 2-11

An outstanding team effort overcame the strength and physical challenge of a combative Setanta side. Playing with the advantage of a strong wind in the first half, Macs had good possession early on but struggles to convert this into scores. With Joe drake and Jack Vencatachellum competing strongly at midfield being well supported by dominant half-backs Jeaihan McKayle, Niall Gilbride and Aaron McTernan, Macs eventually found the target and points came from Alex Lambeth, Christie McClean, John McEvoy, Joe, Aaron and Jack were followed by a fine goal by Declan Staunton.
Half time: Setanta 0-0 Macs-1-7
The lead gang into the second half did not look as healthy as might have been hoped as Setanta started sharply with an early point. Confident goal keeping from Connor McCarthy, solid corner-back work from Ryan Bennett and Declan and awesome full-back play from Conal Dowling helped to settle Macs, they began to work the ball well and quickly responded with a point from Alex. The teams exchanged scores as the game opened up but Macs passing began to cancel out any wind advantage for Setanta. Kieran Joyce saw a lot of the ball in the half-forward line and when John McEvoy scored a 'sick' goal the game was in the bag. Hugh Maguire wrapped up the scoring with a neatly taken point from an acute angle.
A great win and a fantastic performance-well done-but Setanta-they'll be hard beaten and we may have to play them three more times this season
U14's record second win
16/03/2008

Macs 4-12 John Mitchels 0-1

This was another comfortable win but Macs had to improve after a mediocre
first half. Strong performances from Joe Drake, Christy McClean and Niall
Gilbride set the platform with Michael McCloskey, Conor McCarthy and
Jordan Bangura also showing well. The backs led by Conal Dowling deserve a
special mention having conceded only one point in two games. The next
match, however, will be much tougher against the unbeaten Setanta on Tue
15th April at Pairc na h'Eireaan
Sean Mc Dermotts 1-15 Round Towers 0-8
09/3/2008 Challenge Match

Macs opened the season with a good work out against London Senior outfit Round Towers in an entertaining challenge match.

In the first half Macs played into a strong breeze but still managed to stay in touch with their oppenents and finished the half trailing by 2 points, 0-7 to 0-5. In the second half Macs put together some fine attacking moves and were soon into the lead as Joseph Dowling showed up well in attack to land some good points. Some fine work at the back and midfield restricted to Round Towers to one point in the second half, and a Joseph Dowling goal in the final mintues wrapped up a fine opening victory for Macs.

Thanks must go to Round Towers for their kind hospitality and fine food provided after the match.
Macs U14s record impressive win
Naomh Padraig 0-0 Macs 4-20

Despite missing 10 players from the original squad, Macs produced an
excellent display in the opening game of the season. New players Sebastian
Dacosta, Jordan Bangura and Michael McCloskey were impressive on their
debuts and were given great support from the outstanding Declan Staunton.
Quality scores from John Mac, Christie McC, Joe D and Aaron formed the
platform for Conal to burst forward for his goal. This followed a
thunderbolt from Jack V. Nial G was rock solid as ever at centre-back.
Ryan Monteith did brilliantly at LH forward. Tom Ross wrapped up the
scoring with a late punched goal.

Macs finish season with 100% record in all Warwickshire competitions intact
Sean Mc Dermotts 2-10 Four Masters 0-10
02/12/2007

In a game played in very difficult conditions Macs had enough in reserve to hold out against a second half comeback from Four Masters. Macs had the advantage of a strong wind in the first half and opened up with some slick points before two first half goals gave them some breathing space at the break where they lead by 2-5 to 0-3. Conditions dictated that Four Masters would have more of the ball in the second half and so it proved, but Macs defense was solid enough to avoid conceding any goals, and some well worked points at the other end saw them safely home.

This final victory of the year ensures that the senior team recorded a 100% win record in all competitions in Warwickshire this year and for the second season in a row has not been defeated in any competition in the county, no mean feat for any team to achieve.

25/11/2007 Fr Forde Final

Sean Mc Dermotts 1-15 Erin go Brath 1-4

Macs recorded a comfortable victory over a dissapointing EGB outfit who were very understrenght for this cup final. Joseph Dowling scored Macs goal mid way through the first half to effectively end the game as a contest. EGB fielded only 13 players for the first period and Macs made their numerical advantage pay with some good points taken.

Macs captain Ossie Bennett collected the Fr Forde cup to make it a clean sweep of titles for Macs in Warwickshire for the second year in a row. County chairman Larry McAuliffe also presented Ossie with the Warwickshire SFL trophy. Our last fixture of the year is due to take place next Sunday against Four Masters in the last remaining league fixture.

Macs Enjoy a superb U14 trip to Monaghan
The weekend of 19th-21st October saw a Sean Macs U14 squad of 22 players and 20 adults/familys (including 2 table dancers and a Mitchells woman) travel to Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan for the club's first ever underage tour.
On Saturday Macs provided two 9-a-side teams for a blitz competition. Also involved were two sides from Castleblayney Faughs, Toome, Inniskreen (two teams) and St. Geraldines from Louth.
We beat Innishkreen, Toome and one of the Castleblayney sides in the first round which meant that the team managed by Joey Dowling went into the semi-finals. Here, in a hard fought (literally) game we were just edged out. Castleblayney A went on to win the tournament, but we had earned great respect for our style and standard of play.
John McEvoy recieved Player of the Blitz 2007 as voted by the three referees. A special presentation was also made to Aoife Mannion as she was the only girl to take part in the tournament.
We then played Inniskreen in a 15-a-side game and won by two points. Macs 2-11, Innskreen 2-9. Conal Dowling picked up a bad knee injury in a game where Macs defenders Chris Fensome, Tom Dowling and midfielder Charlie Checkitts were particularly impressive.
On Sunday we travelled to Oram to play our second 15-a-side game, Joey Dowling, having been called to Dublin as a possible replacement for Steve Staunton. Macs gave an outstanding display in this game with a final score of Macs 3-12 Oran 2-3.
Excellent performances from Jeaihan Mcklayle, Niall Gilbride, Tom Dowling, Jack Vencatachellum, Connor Mooney, John McEvoy and Declan Staunton ensured that Oran were always on the back foot. Charlie Checkitts was again outstanding. Excitement at the standard of football was nothing to the mass hysteria from Macs female supporters as Big Tom made an appearance at the final whistle. Following on from the photo shoot, the visiting party were, as had been the case the previous day at Castleblayney, shown fabulous post-match hospitality in Orans impressive new clubhouse.
We then travelled to Clones for the county final between Clontibret and Castleblayney. Here, we were again given a great reception with the teams picture in the matchday programme and the squad welcomed onto the pitch at half time. Unfortunately, we didn't bring our hosts luck as they lost by two points.
Back at the Hope Castle - ask Caroline about the scenic view - we closed the football side of the tour with the presentations:
Players Player of the Year: Conal Dowling
Managers Player of the Year: James Corrigan
Anne Sweeney Player of the Year: Jack Vencatachellum
Player of the Tour: Charlie Checkitts
Tour runner up: Connor Mooney, Niall Gilbride
Most Valuable Player of the Tour: Chris Fensome
Champagne Moment: Ryan Edkins

The return home on monday was preceded by a hugely popular paintball session where John Gilbride had a contract taken out on him for losing his passport (time was also found for a shopping session, unfortunately).
The group arrived back safe and sound - although the paintballers were pretty badly bruised - at 8pm on Monday evening.
This was a fabulous tour, brilliantly organised by Cathy Mannion, Angela Gilbride, Caroline Dowling and Anne Sweeney. The youngsters had a superb itinerary and fully enjoyed the football and other activities. As a club we are grateful for their tremendous efforts.
We wish to express our gratitude to the staff of the Hope Castle, to Castleblayney Faughs, to Aidan and Shaemus, and in particular, the host families who made our stay so enjoyable. We look forward to returning the hospitality in 2008.
Sean Mc Dermotts 0-9 Thomas Mc Curtains 2-9
All Britain Q/F 07/10/2007

Sean Mc Dermotts went out of the British club championship at the quarter final stage after losing out to the London champions Thomas Mc Curtains. It was a match that Macs will feel they could have and should have won but ultimately did not convert enough of their possession to scores and paid the ultimate price. Macs started the game excellently and were quickly into gear as they opened up a three point to no score lead. Throughout the first half Macs were utterly dominant all over the pitch and were in complete control, even before Mc Curtains were reduced to 14 men when the referee showed one of their players a red card for an off the ball incident. The closing score at half time was 0-7 to 0-3 in favour of Macs as they looked in complete control.

However those famous words that football is a game of two halves came back to haunt Macs in the second half as Mc Curtains came back strongly into the game. They registered 1-1 in the opening 5 minutes to bring the game back level and shortly afterwards Macs were also reduced to 14 men when Trevor Neville was punished for another off the ball incident. For the next 15 minutes there was little between the teams as both teams battled gamely all over the pitch and looked for that vital break through that would swing the game in their favour. Indeed it looked as if Macs had found that break through when with 10 minutes to go Lee Scanlon found himself one on one with the Mc Curtains keeper but unfortunately for Mc Dermotts the Mc Curtains keeper pulled off a good double save to keep the ball out and deny Macs what had looked like a certain goal. In the final 8 minutes Mc Curtains managed to engineer a couple of frees which were duly converted to give them that vital advantage and they scored their second break away goal in the final minute as Mc Dermotts had gone all out in search of the equalising goal.

Sean Mc Dermotts Retain Warwickshire SFC!!
23/09/2007 Warwickshire SFC Final

Sean Mc Dermotts 1-8 Erin Go Brath 0-9

A strong second half performance saw Macs retain their Warwickshire senior championship. With a strong breeze blowing at Parc na hEireann it was Erin go Brath who gained the initiative in the first half and lead by a point at half time. The gap could have been wider if not for a well taken Michael Hayden goal ten minutes before half time. With the aid of the strong wind in the second half Macs managed to exert a stranglehold around the middle third and created far more scoring opportunities than their opponents. At the back Macs had a fine day with the EGB forwards finding themselves with very little space or time on the ball. Macs showed good strength in depth with injured captain Ossie Bennet coming on for the final 15 minutes while Anthony Moriarty and Dessie Kelly came off the bench to chip in with two fine points as Macs held out for a well deserved victory. Depsite the atrocious weather conditions Macs completed a comfotable victory over the hosts in Leicester. Three first half goals were enough to give Macs a healthy lead at half time despite playing into a strong breeze in the first half. With Macs dominating at midfield and Joseph Dowling showing well at full forward the second half continued in the same vane, with stand in wing forward Dave Tierney grabbing a hat trick. Conor O Riordan finished off the scoring on a rare excursion up field.

Sean Mc Dermotts 2-17 John Mitchells 2-10

An outstanding first half performance laid the platform for a comfortable Macs victory over their rivals in an entertaining Fr Forde semi final. Macs played some great football in the first half with the advantage of the breeze and held a commanding 13 point advantage at the break. In the second half Macs seemed to lose their concentration and let Mitchells in for two second half goals, but ultimately they never closed the gap enough to change the outcome of the game.

For the second time in this year in the SFL EGB failed to field 15 players and this game had to be played at 13 a side. This had little impact on Macs as they opened up a very commanding first half lead. They were 2-0 to 0-0 up within the first ten minutes and added a further two goals before half time. The undoubted highlight of the first half was an outstanding individual effort from Stephen Mc Geer who fired over a magnificant score off his less favoured left leg. The second half saw EGB battle back and two second half goals put a reasonably look on the score line, but the result was never in doubt as Macs held out to win easily.

Fr Forde Q/F - 21/10/2007

Two goals at the start of the second half from stand in corner forward David Tierney were enough to send Macs through to the semi final of the Fr Forde cup. Despite fielding a weakened team Macs ran out comfortable winners over the hosts in Nottingham. In the first hald Macs played some decent football and scored some fine points but an error at the back gifted St Barnabus a goal just before half time and there was only the minimum between the teams at the half time whistle. That was as close as it got for Barnabus as Macs considerable upped the tempo in the second half and scored 2-3 without reply to go 10 points clear. Barnabus did pull back a late goal but had left themselves to do much to do to get back into the game.

A strong second half performance saw Macs book their place in this years senior championship final. John Mitchells started the brighter of the two teams and lead by the minimum at the interval 0-6 to 0-5. However that was as good as it got for Mitchells as Macs upped the tempo considerable in the second half and outscored their opponents by 8 points to run out winners by 7. Two expertly taken penalties by Eamonn Hanlon were the difference between the sides as Mitchells battled gamely but could never haul Macs back in after they had taken the initative in the second half.

Despite not seeing competitive action for several weeks Macs came out of the blocks strongly in this second group game of the Warwickshire SFC. Three first half goals were the key to Macs victory as Michael Hayden struck for 2 while Lee Scanlon grabbed the other. Macs mopped up a lot of ball around the middle third and fed the dangerous full forward with quick direct ball and lead by 9 points at half time, 3-5 to 0-5. Playing with the advantage of the breeze in the second half Macs tagged on five more scores to run out convincing winners. At the back Dave Tierney was commanding in goal and made several vital interceptions, while the Macs backline and midfield marshalled their men well throughout. Indeed had Macs have taken more of the chances they created they could have run out winners by a bigger margin.

Sean Mc Dermotts 2-13 St Barnabus 1-6

Sean Mc Dermotts opened the defence of their Warwickshire SFC title with a well deserved victory over St Barnabus on a wind swept Nottingham pitch on Saturday evening. Macs were out the blocks quickly with an early Joe Dowling point followed by a Lee Scanlon goal shortly afterwards. Indeed the entire inside forward line were proving a handful for their opponents and with Macs playing quick direct ball into them Joe Dowling added a second goal before half time to give Macs a commanding 2-6 to 0-2 half time lead.

Macs started the second half much like they started the first and three early points finished the game off as a contest. Macs who had the upper hand in the mid field area throughout were unfortunate not to add a couple more goals to their tally before the final whistle. In fairness to St Barnabus they battled throughout and added on 1-3 in the final quarter to add a degree of respectability to the score line.

Sean Mc Dermotts had too much class for Naomh Padraig in a one sided affair at Parc na hEireann. Despite playing into the breeze in the first half Macs entered the break holding an eight point lead, 0-9 to 0-1. Three second half goals finished the game off as a contest. Next up is St Barnabas next weekend as Macs begin the defence of their Senior Championship crown in Nottingham on Saturday night.

A late Martin Slevin point gave Macs a deserved draw against their rivals in this Mulligan cup tie. Macs started the brighter of the two teams and lead by 3 points at the break, 0-5 to 0-2. However John Mitchells came back in to the contest strongly and looked like they were going to hold on for the victory as they lead by 2 points with a couple of minute of time left. However Macs were not beaten yet and two late points ensured the game finished all square.

Sean Mc Dermotts 2-7 St Brendans 1-7
31/May/2007 Warwickshire IFL

Macs grabbed a deserved victory in dramatic fashion at Parc na hEireann on Thursday night. In rain soaked conditions St Brendans looked like they were going to take all the spoils on the night when they goaled with 5 minutes to go to send them a point clear. However Macs showed their familiar fighting spirit and conjured up a late Chris Hayden goal, after some good support play from Dominic Walsh. The same player then tagged on the insurance point from a free kick in injury time to ensure Macs got all three points from this fixture, and made amends for the league defeat to the same opposition three weeks ago.

29/May/2007 - Warwickshire SFL

In a match played out in terrible conditions Macs ran out easy winners over a disappointing Four Masters outfit. After grabbing the opening score of the game, Four Masters could do little to trouble Macs as they struggled to make any impact in the first half, despite playing with the advantage of a strong breeze. Macs lead at the interval by 0-5 to 0-1 and with the advantage of the wind in the second they ran out easy winners. Dave Tierney was forced into an out field position after the interval and grabbed a rare point as he showcased his silky skills as a corner forward.

29/April/2007 Warwickshire SFL

Sean Mc Dermott’s 2-12 Erin Go Bragh 2-11

Sean Mc Dermott’s won a tight game by the minimum of margins thanks to a late goal from Lee Scanlon. Both sides were missing several regulars and with EGB only having 13 available players Macs were forced to field with 13 players. Macs built up a healthy half time lead thanks to some fine attacking play in the last 15 minutes of the half, culminating in a Trevor Neville goal ten minutes before half time. In the second half Macs seemed to take the foot off the gas and almost paid the price when EGB came back strongly into the game with two second half goals, the first of which was the result of a dubious penalty decision. The large spaces afforded to both sets of forwards seemed to be working in EGB’s favour and late in the second half the initiative seemed to have gone EGB’s way as they went a point clear with a minute of regular time to go. However as they have shown many times in the past Macs dug deep to find the winning goal with the game entering injury time, and ensured their 100% start to the league continued.
